My parents are going to buy us a car to restore together! Probably not until the summer or so, but either way, I’m excited!
I’m currently picturing it as a Saab Sonett, but that could always change. My dad mentioned that he was looking at a Geo Metro convertible, so I mean... there’s really no limits to what it might be. In any case, we’re going to either make it nice and original or just have fun with it. I just wish we had the resources for a Hayabusa swap on that Metro.

I also vote Sonnet or maybe a 914. Or Karman Ghia.
Basically my top 3 cars I’d want to restore besides the one in my garage

A Saab would be good. First car I restored with my grandpap was a T riumph S tag. Second was an Aston Martin DB4. I spent more time with my grandpap than my parents.

Useful cars are boring. I want a two-seater with little-to-no trunk space.

well a truck fits a few of those, no trunk, just enough room inside to comfortably fit two people.........

Go for broke.
The metaphorical, not the literal.
Buick Skyhawk (H-Body) “Nighthawk.” It’s an H-body, so it’s cheap(ly made too.) Engine and transmission? Throw an SBC in it . So it handles surprisingly well and can go surprisingly quick. Practical? HA. These things prove that hatchback does not automatically equal practical. And they look damn cool.
And i
f you want to get
really
crazy, putting a Buick 3.8 Turbo into one of these
would be accurate and correct
.

The coolest thing about your post is restoring a car with your dad. The second coolest is it is my old car, sold about a year and a half ago. These cars are tiny. I had trouble hitting one pedal instead of two, and my head hit the roof when I autocrossed it with a helmet on. But so cool looking.

I should have been more clear, orange Saab in the pic is my old car.

Everyone here is wrong, the correct answer is AMC AMX. Two seats, big engine, looks sweet, but handles much better than most muscle cars because short wheelbase.
